Having only recently decided to feature Mingus Ah Um for our playback session on Friday 5 June at 3pm (click here for more details), we were delighted to come across this feature in hi-fi+ shortly afterwards.
While we don’t have the Mobile Fidelity Ultradisc One-Step pressing in-store, we will be spinning something very special indeed - our shop manager Iain’s own personal copy of the album.
Originally released in 1959, Mingus Ah Um remains a landmark jazz recording, featuring some of Charles Mingus’s most celebrated compositions. Remarkably, it still sounds fresh, vital and, in many ways, strikingly modern.
A true classic, and one that continues to reward repeated listening.
