The MC A Mono is a true mono cartridge for getting the finest quality play-back of MONO recordings.
If you play a mono record with a stereo cartridge you will not achieve the same signal in the two output channels, due to imperfections such as crosstalk, noise, phase errors, tracking error, anti-skating and distortion. This difference between the channels will result in an unstable and compromised image. Mono switches on some electrical components can compensate for this, to some extent. However, using a dedicated mono cartridge will eliminate all of the reproduction problems, as the cartridge produces only one signal and feeds both channels of the hi-fi system equally. This will provide a much more forceful and stable image with a fuller sound.
True Mono cartridges also do not respond to vertical movement (as all the musical information is picked up only in the horizontal plane of a record groove). This has the added benefit of reducing the effects of dust and dirt on the end audio performance. The final result will be a much more clean and noiseless reproduction of the MONO record. These effects simply cannot be achieved merely by the use of a mono switch.
The MC A Mono draws inspiration and design elements from the hugely popular MC A 95 cartridge, but adjusts the engineering to cater solely for mono vinyl records.
Titanium Structure
The housing of the MC A Mono is made using Ortofon’s pioneering SLM technique. In production, fine particles of Titanium are welded together, layer-by-layer, to construct a single-piece body devoid of unnecessary material. Using this technique, the density of the body can be precisely controlled, allowing for extremely high internal damping. The final result provides absolute freedom from resonance, allowing the cartridge to perfectly suit a wide array of high-end tonearms.
The finest technologies and material choices
Like other Exclusive Series cartridges, the MC A Mono makes use of the company’s best stylus profile. The specially polished Ortofon Replicant 100 diamond stylus profile boasts a thin and light shape, with an impressively long vertical contact surface making it as close as possible to an original record-cutting stylus as possible. The stylus is then mounted onto a boron cantilever.
Elsewhere within the cartridge system, the MC A Mono employs Ortofon's patented Wide Range Damping (WRD) technology and high-end components such as the extremely strong, compact neodymium magnet in the generator system, the Aucurum wire coils and the purpose-chosen armature. The end result of such decisions is a cartridge that exhibits minimal interference and crystal clear reproduction.
The best of the best
Cosmetically, the shape of the MC A Mono is entirely drawn from the MC A 95, differentiated only by the 'A Mono' logo. This striking aesthetic, alongside the high-end technologies employed, manifests Ortofon's commitment to helping any vinyl lover's high expectation for their precious hi-fi system and records. d turntables.
With an output impedance of 7Ω and a low-to-medium output voltage of 0.2mV, the MC A Mono is easy to partner with most phono pre-amps and step-up transformers. Its optimal weight and compliance are also designed to suit the vast majority of modern tonearms, making fitting the MC A Mono in a breeze. The MC A Mono is a unique offering, helping vinyl enthusiasts with mono record collections enjoy their music like never before.
